A Permanent Literacy
In an interview-based literacy narrative, a former Marine discusses the connection between literacy and tattoos. At the start of the video, he recognizes that literacy can oftentimes mean more than the traditional understanding of knowing how to read and write; but, when he is asked about the relationship between tattoos and literacy, he does not immediately see a way that they are connected. Upon reflecting, however, he discusses how some tattoos contain words. Additionally, he talks about how some people have tattoos in other languages–many of which that were wrongly translated.
He also discusses the meanings and reasons behind his two tattoos: stenciled letters of “Semper Fi,” the Marine’s motto, and his wife’s name. To hear more about his tattoos and his thoughts on tattoos and literacy in general check out his video at this link! Enjoy!
